The American Legion is a veteran service organization committed to advocating for veterans, their families, and our local communities. Our local post plays a vital role in supporting veterans, promoting patriotism, and engaging in community service activities. We provide a range of services, including support for veterans' needs, educational programs, and patriotic events.
Funeral Honors are ceremonial activities performed to pay tribute to deceased veterans. The American Legion participates in these honors by providing a color guard or honor guard for military funerals. This typically includes the presentation of the American flag, the playing of "Taps," a rifle salute, and comforting words for the grieving family.
To ensure Funeral Honors for a veteran's funeral, we kindly recommend that you express your request during the funeral planning process. Our American Legion post will collaborate with you to coordinate an honor guard to take part in the ceremony and offer the appropriate tributes to commemorate your loved one's dedicated service.
No, Funeral Honors assistance is not limited to American Legion members. We provide Funeral Honors to any eligible veteran, regardless of their affiliation with the American Legion.
We welcome new members who are passionate about supporting veterans and their communities. To become a member, simply bring your DD-214 to our next meeting.
